Indie/ Pop influences


I wasn't very keen at the beginning on making my magazine a pop magazine, however by researching I have realised that the innocence and happiness that come from pop music, I want to influence my Indie music and fashion magazine. because of this I have decided to make my pictures reflect rebellion but in a more sly and sophisticated way. 


When thinking about which types of pictures to take, I realised I want my images to show innocence as well as edge. I thought about this because it will open my magazine to a wider audience. when researching magazines I noticed certain magazines flaunt the idea of "sex" straight away. I want my magazine to have a sexy appeal, but not look cheep. I really like the idea of combining fashion and music and I also want to show my magazine to be about strong woman and they can do things on their own. I feel that this will also make my target audience more for woman, but also for men and it will be images of independent, beautiful woman.


I decided to look at ID Magazine because i really like the style of their magazine and the image it connotes to the audience.


This is a double page spread from Id magazine, it has a strong image of a woman with man but she is on her own therefore showing independence. It only has a small amount of writing about the woman talking about what she has succeeded and who she is. it has a bright powerful picture which draws the reader in to want to know who the woman is. This double page spread has really inspired me and I will be using a similar layout for my music magazine.


This is some of the covers of I-D magazine, they are strong woman on the front with very edgy looks. the pictures are all close up and the all have one eye covered or shut. The cover is not over powering by showing lots of writing and information about what's inside. it gives the impression "what you see is what you get" and its up to weather we like the cover if we want to read more. The word I-D is in front of the picture which shows that the cover model may not necessarily be a very important part of the magazine. 


I like this magazine cover and the double page spread and it has inspired me with lots of ideas for which photos to take. I am going to use this magazine and INDIE magazine as inspiration as they have both helped influence me with ideas.
