Developing my magazine.

My final cover :

For the cover of my magazine i used a picture that i took of my friend emily. i edited the picture on photoshop using the color select tool, this helped me enhance the pink colors so that i could make the shirt and the bottom of the wall pink. I used the brush tool on the hat to make it white and not have writing on it. I used the Juice font to make the lyric on the side as graffiti. i tried out different lyrics but i thought this one was most effective. I added the bar code on which makes it look even more professional and i felt the Title and Sub title fonts contrast excellently with the graffiti. I think the simplicity of the front cover is very good as it looks more elegant and professional. i think its very inviting as she is smiling at the reader.  In comparison to my Prelim cover, this is much more professional and even though its not packed with writing it really works.

Before i made this cover, i also experimented with other layouts for a similar cover.

This is a different image, i thought i would make it black and white and have the title slanted to make my magazine different. how ever i thought i was a bit plain and decided that i would rather use color to make my magazine stand out.

My final Contents:

This is my final contents page. i took a picture of my friend Samantha and thought it was a really strong rebellious photo. I used to brightness and contrast tool on Photoshop to make the girl paler and the background darker. i made the word contents white because i thought it would look really bright on the page. I used the text box tool to create the text and i used Dafont.com to download the fonts. I used the line tool to create the white lines around the word Contents and Mischief as i thought this looked more professional. I used the font JailBird Jenna for the main font as i thought it looked edgy and rebellious reflecting my indie music theme.

I researched some issues and topics that are current in the music industry such as the festivals and bands and use this information as a source for my contents page. People want to buy a magazine that is on top of the game and knows what is happening when and therefore doing the research was very important. I also looked at the history of indie music as that way i know how to style my magazine and thats where i came up with the idea to make an independent magazine and to have it more with the concept of DIY, making it have outspoken statements and really reflect rebellion.

My final double page spread:

This is my double page spread. The original image on the left was red and black however i used the color select tool on photoshop to make the shoes and the hat pink. I then matched my title with the colors making it a very effective color scheme of black white and pink. I used the font Jailbird Jenna for the title and the quotes as its a harsh font. I used the font orator std for my main article and her name on the left hand side as its a clean font and very easy to read. I like how all of the letters are upper case so they are easy to read and also make the words seem important. originally i was going to leave the colors red, but i starting to realize that by using Pink i am opening my magazine to a wider target audience as it makes the magazine as a whole look younger, therefor it will attract younger girls as well as older.

I added an image in the top hand corner of the page and rotated it to fit. i like the skulls as it really reflects rebellion, yet it is still girlie.

i created my article originally on Microsoft word and then pasted it onto the photoshop. in the article i spoke about her music with capital records but i also mentioned the struggle it took to get her there. I also spoke about a fashion line she was creating and how successful she was. I found what i wrote really inspirational for woman with dreams and passions.  In the beginning i wondered wether i should have made the article so that she was an independent artist. but after all of my research i decided that i believe indie music is about the attitude and being unique and doing something different. therefore even though she is signed with capital records, she is still Indie as she has the rebellious attitude and tries hard to get what she wants.

On the actual magazine i decided to use attractive woman as this may also bring in a smaller audience of boys that are 'secretly' into indie pop and fashion.

In comparison to my preliminary task this magazine looks much more professional and my photography itself was more powerful. I have learnt allot about photoshop and i now know mostly every tool.  i feel incredibly comfortable with all the tools and have learnt how to use them and make sure they are used to their maximum potential. At the beginning i was scared of photoshop but now i am very confidant with it.

I am very pleased with my final magazine and i feel its a HUGE improvement on my prelim. I gained a knowledge of the indie genre, music, history and fashion and i feel i reflected certain aspects of that in my magazine.
